And the behaviour detection and defence mechanisms go into overdrive. Teachers are lined up in assembly halls and churches ready with the withering look or warning word.
For over 35 years I have experienced the highs and lows of school liturgies. I still think they are crucial to our identity, but we need to work at them to create the atmosphere for the Spirit to move hearts and minds. They are the best way of instilling hope in our young people.
Over the next few weeks, I shall be very much focused on this issue.
